(New Orleans, LA- January 11, 2011): Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra announced today the launch of their new Hometown Concert Series which will kickoff with a special one-night only performance of Book One, their Grammy Award-Winning album on Friday, January 21, 2010 at 9pm at House of Blues, 225 Decatur Street, New Orleans. Under the artistic direction of Irvin Mayfield, the Book One concert features the 17-piece orchestra which includes such notable jazz musicians as Stephen Walker, Wes Anderson IV and Michael Watson on Trombone; Barney Floyd, Leon Brown, Ashlin Parker, Stephen Lands and Irvin Mayfield on Trumpet; Aaron Fletcher, Ed Petersen, Derek Douget, and Tony Dagradi- Saxophone; Adonis Rose- Drums, Victor Atkins- Piano; Evan Christopher-Clarinet; Don Vappie- Banjo; and David Pulphus on Bass.

Aimed at engaging both Jazz and non-Jazz audiences, the Hometown Concert Series is “A dynamic and content rich season of Jazz concerts that will be presented across multiple venues.” states Ronald Markham, CEO and President of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. After seven years of touring nationally and internationally the big band will present a year-long ticketed concert season in New Orleans. “NOJO’s Hometown Concert Series is aimed at deepening the artistic mandate among musicians in New Orleans through commissions of new Jazz works, and reviving dormant Jazz works from the greats of New Orleans music including Alvin Batiste, James Black and others. We will explore the past, the modern and the future of Jazz for our hometown audiences,” explains Mayfield.

Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will also celebrate the great bandleader Duke Ellington by presenting Shakespeare in Love, A Valentines Day Jazz Concert featuring Such Sweet Thunder by Duke Ellington and Love Sonnets by William Shakespeare on Monday, February 14, at the Contemporary Arts Center.
