Mayfield Productions and JW Marriott Hotel New Orleans Announce Deal to Create Upscale New Orleans Music Club
Deal represents an historic expansion of the Mayfield brand; shows business community’s ongoing commitment to the city’s cultural economy
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Irvin Mayfield, Grammy Award and Billboard Award-winning trumpeter, composer, arranger, UNO professor and businessman and JW Marriott Hotel New Orleans General Manager, Ted Selogie, today announced a partnership that represents a significant and historic expansion of Mayfield’s hospitality brand, as well as the business community’s continued commitment to the city’s cultural economy.
The new Irvin Mayfield I Club, a sophisticated music venue “where music is art”, is expected to open July 2011 in the hotel’s former Henri restaurant space. The new club will feature live music Wednesdays – Sundays starting at 8 p.m. It will offer exquisite cocktails, fine-dining small plates prepared by JW Marriott’s executive chef, Lou Sander, and, of course, stellar service for the discerning guest.
Locals and visitors to the Irvin Mayfield I Club will experience true New Orleans music in a downtown luxury setting. Locals will be able to drive up, valet park, step inside and have an incredible night of music, fine-dining and fun. Visitors will be able to experience authentic New Orleans music in one the most elegant hotels in the city. The Irvin Mayfield I Club will present a diverse musical format from Blues, to Zydeco, to Gospel, to Funk, singer song-writers, Cabaret performers, DJ’s and more. Mayfield Productions will program all content, direct the strategic marketing, while JW Marriott will handle staffing, the menu and operations. The Irvin Mayfield I Club will also introduce an “I-nner Circle” membership program that will provide numerous VIP perks such as concierge services, priority access, special offers and select JW Marriott benefits.
The new partnership with the JW Marriott represents an expansion of Mayfield Productions’ hospitality division. Mayfield Productions also currently provides content and oversees the brand marketing of Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse in the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street. Mayfield Productions will continue to oversee the Playhouse and its Jazz renaissance on Bourbon Street. The strategic growth of the brand borrows from the culinary industry in New Orleans and throughout the country where Chef’s like Emeril Lagasse and John Besh are expanding into local markets by offering new and authentic Louisiana-flavored experiences.
“We were very fortunate two years ago to boldly plant a flag for Jazz on Bourbon Street through the Jazz Playhouse,” said Mayfield. “Our partner, General Manager, Al Groos and the Royal Sonesta Hotel, believed in my dream of proudly reclaiming the Jazz history of Bourbon Street. Through a sustained investment in Jazz, the Playhouse continues to make a direct financial and cultural impact on musicians, workers, small business partners and, of course, guests. “It is my vision that the Irvin Mayfield I Club, will create a successful and upscale music club model for New Orleans music that will grow and thrive within and beyond our borders for years to come.”
Through the partnership with the JW Marriott, Mayfield Productions will once again be in a position to employ more musicians, more workers, and engage more small businesses that will be working on music—the industry of music. Mayfield believes that each musician is a small business. The goal of Mayfield Production is to strengthen the music industry of New Orleans by being at the center of hospitality, tourism, media, culture and music, in order to better help all musicians. The Irvin Mayfield I Club will help expand this impact by showcasing many different musical artists that make up what is known as, “New Orleans” music. “We will feature some of my favorite artists like Amanda Shaw, or legends like Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Mardi Gras Indians and even Los Hombres Calientes,” added Mayfield.
The partnership, in turn, offers JW Marriott—one of the most elegant and luxurious of the Marriott brands, the opportunity to work in tandem with a symbiotic brand, who not only understands, but will work hard to help the property achieve its goals of providing business and leisure travelers with the kind of deluxe level of comfort and personal service to which they are accustomed.
“By partnering with Irvin Mayfield, a young, creative, passionate musician and businessman, the JW Marriott is not only investing in the current cultural economy of our city, but it is also supporting the emergence of a new business model… a model that creates a new paradigm where the artist is not just a performer but a partner in the business,” said Ted Selogie, General Manager, JW Marriott New Orleans. “We are thrilled to be working with Irvin Mayfield and his team and look forward to creating a sophisticated, world-class music club that will not only showcase the best musicians New Orleans has to offer, but will serve as a beacon of change for how the business of music should be done in New Orleans.”
