Irvin Mayfield Honors Community Leaders in Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Martin Luther King Jazz Award exemplifies leadership in community building, advancing cultural
awareness through music and art, furthering economic opportunity, and adherence to the principals of nonviolence. ABC26 News NEW ORLEANS - In commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King's vision, Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta Hotel is honoring individuals in our community who, by example, have manifested the spirit of Dr. King. Sunday, January 17th at 7 pm, Irvin Mayfield will recognize those individuals who have embodied the teachings of Dr. King by presenting them with the 2010 Martin Luther King Jr. Jazz Award. The ceremony will honor former Mayor Moon Landrieu, Bill Rouselle, media and PR trailblazer, community organizer Barbara Major, Dr. Norman Francis, President of Xavier University, and the Louis Mason family for their accomplishments in helping to build a better future for the citizens of New Orleans. |
