Irvin Mayfield
Irvin Mayfield, the trumpeter who already has established a jazz program at the University of New Orleans, will teach a course there this semester that will be available in person and online.

"New Orleans as Discourse II" is the title of the once-weekly course that will start Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Room 236 of the Liberal Arts Building. The two-hour-and-40-minute sessions will feature Mayfield interviewing individuals such as real estate developer Sean Cummings; Sidney Torres, president of SDT Waste and Debris; chef John Besh; George Rodrigue, the artist best known for creating the blue dog; and Tom Piazza, whose books include "Why New Orleans Matters."

The class will be streamed live throughout UNO. After each class, audio and video will be available at cola.uno.edu/mayfield, irvingmayfield.com/blog and wwno.org. Students will be required to blog about each class and participate in a final project involving New Orleans culture.

More information is available from the College of Liberal Arts at 504.280.6266 and at cola.uno.edu/mayfield.
